A
s
part of its corporate
social responsibility
programme, Firefly
initiated a “Can You
Spare Us RM10” dona-
tion drive amongst its
employees in support
of the “Connecting Communities Pro-
gramme” for the Malaysian AIDS Founda-
tion and sister organisation the Malaysian
AIDS Council (MAC). The efforts benefit
Rumah Solehah,
a shelter and support
center for 16 children and eight women
infected and/or affected by HIV & AIDS.
The centre aims to provide after-care
assistance, temporary accommodation,
counselling, moral, and spiritual support
to all of their residents.
Established in 2001 by the Islamic
Medical Association of Malaysia (PPIM),
Rumah Solehah
is supported by the
Ministry of Women, Family and Com-
munity Development and the Malaysian
AIDS Council. To date, the center has
served 50 children, with protection given
to Muslim children below the age of 18.
This includes sending them to schools so
that they may receive proper education
Extending Connecting Communities Programme:

to improve their chances of thriving in
the future.
Within the
Rumah Solehah
pro-
gramme, a home-based outreach service
was recently established, catering to
children living with HIV, or children
who are affected by HIV positive parents.
Unlike the shelter home residents, these
home-based beneficiaries continue living
with their respective families. The service
offers HIV education and awareness to
the family with the aim of promoting
and encouraging compliance to HIV
medication.
A few of us from Firefly were lucky
enough to have the privilege to bond
with the residents from
Rumah Solehah
.
Greeted with smiling faces of the children
and women there, it was a day filled with
fun activities such as a hi-tea session, and
a birthday celebration for the residents.
Firefly staff got to know the children
better through interactive play with the
children and through speaking with their
adult caregivers.
On behalf of the Firefly family, we
handed out the cash donation and gave
away Firefly merchandise in the hopes
of bringing cheer and showing our sup-
port and care towards our cherished
community.
Rumah Solehah
Project
Coordinator, Cik Fathiiah Hamzah said
the home is to provide hope and positive
motivation for those who are affected
and/or infected by HIV & AIDS by instill-
ing a loving family environment among
the residents of the shelter. As the HIV
& AIDS epidemic continues to affect our
women and children, your support and
kind deeds – be it in the form of cash or
in-kind donations – are most welcomed
and integral to the sustainability of this
shelter and the charitable services that it
offers to its beneficiaries.
