that we were aiming for and decided to
make a second season. We also managed
to show urbanites and the public how
Malaysian youth are very much detached
from the culturally-rich past of Malaysia.
As for my brother and I, we felt like we
trusted ourselves more and learnt a lot
about the industry after working on this
project, both of which I think became a
priceless experience.
What areyoucurrently looking forward to
with thesuccessof ‘KampungQuest’?
Season two of
Kampung Quest
will be
much darker andmore exciting. This time,
we filmed across Malaysia while showcas-
ing more diverse contestants of different
races and personalities. We initially had
a five-season plan for the show but it
also depends on how we can monetise
it. It would be great if we could license
it regionally in countries like Singapore,
Brunei and Indonesia. We are also cur-
rentlyworking on a game showwhichwill
come in webisodes (web episodes) and
hopefully in the next few years there will
be a movie from Feisk Production. That
will be the ultimate goal.
of the show. ‘Survivor’ is all about surviv-
ing under undesirable circumstanceswhile
we are all about reconnecting Malaysians
with our culture and heritage. Our urban-
ites are diverse. They come from all over
the country and represent the modern
Malaysian.
Are thereanyparticular criteria in the
selectionprocessof thecontestants for
theshow?
For our first season, everything was done
online with promotions through Facebook
and local forums. We received about 80
video submissions. The submitted 15
seconds videos sent in had potentials ex-
plaining why they want to take part in this
adventure. We made our selection based
on their creativity, interaction skill and
the way they look in front of the camera
before narrowing down the numbers for
face-to-face interviews to see if they are
ideal for the camera and the show.

show.
We filmed the second season of the show
in September last year. This time we
managed to get government funding
and decided to make it darker and more
physical compared to the first. Expect to
see more action but we are still keeping it
in tune with what
Kampung Quest
is all
about. We hope to release it somewhere
in mid-2015.
What led to thechangeof format for the
secondseason?
We felt that viewers wanted to see more
action and excitement. The second season
will be more dramatic and more exciting
than the first one. There might be lesser
cultural values but we are giving more
cultural exposure with the use of
gamelan
(Malay traditional musical instrument),
Indian traditional dance performances,
and Chinese face-mask painting. These are
all the things that we can now incorporate
with the extra budget we received.
What aresomeof thegoals that youhave
achievedwith this realityshow?
We went around pitching the idea to
broadcasters but most of them were very
hesitant. After the first season was aired,
we managed to get the number of views
