Themusic industryhas certainly changed from
what itwas fiveor tenyears ago. Howdoyou
keepupwith the changes?
For me, singing and my music come from the
heart. I think people know me as a singer of a
certain style and feel. Of course in terms of music
production, we try to be current but the root of
it does not change. The most important part of a
song is the melody and lyrics. If the two marry
well together, the fans will embrace it!
Is there anyplan to release a newalbumsoon
after the success of your latest single ‘Di Pintu
Syurga’?
There is always a plan for another album. For an
artist, nothing is more rewarding than their body
of work compiled in an album. As for now, I am
taking my time. I want to make sure I get the right
material. I took my time with
‘Di Pintu Syurga’
because I wanted the best and it paid off. I amglad
the song has been received very well by music
lovers in Malaysia.
What doyou like todo inyour free time?
As much as I would like to say that I have
interesting hobbies, I just cannot lie because I am
actually rather boring when I am not working. I
like lazing around at home and spending time
with my family. I also enjoy checking out new
music on YouTube for reference and inspiration.

For one, Dayang off-stage is a very simple, jeans
and T-shirt kind of person. My sister always teases
me and says that I don’t dress like an artist when
I’m not performing (laughs). I just love simple
things.
Beinga singer definitely takes you to a lot of
different placeswithinMalaysia and abroad.What
is yourmost favouritedestination that youhave
visited so far andwhy?
I love Malaysia and I think it has a lot to offer in
terms of tourism. I’m going to say Sarawak as
it is my home-state and I think there is a lot to
experience there. As for abroad, due to my tight
schedule, I have only travelled to a few destina-
tions around the world. I have yet to discover that
one particular place that can make me say, this is
my ultimate favourite!
What doyou think2015will bring toyour career?
Arewegoing towitness somethingevenbigger?
Hopefully there will be a newalbum. I just want to
keep doing whatever it is that I do and see where
it will take me.
