may even come across a slithering Cobra,
also another common creature in these
areas. Schools of archer fish tail the boats.
Archer fish have a dirty habit of spitting at
their prey as a means of capturing them,
so watch out!
The boat comes to a quick halt at the
crocodile cave. It’s a historical landmark
with a rock formation of a crocodile
perched neatly at the entrance. The cave
used to be swarming with crocodiles but
roughly 20 years ago, many were killed
to allow for tourist attractions. It was a
terrible occurrence and only a few could
be maintained by the crocodile farm
located close by.
Further up the stream you will find a
self-sustaining fish farm which not only

catch a bite of chicken skin.
After 20 minutes of feeding time, the
boatmen rev up the engines and visitors
go on a quick trip to Beras Basah Island.
Visitors disembark, put on a swimsuit
and take a nice cool dip in the crystal blue
waters. The island is fairly remote with no
stores to pick up a bottle of water, so come
prepared. It is a perfect place to cool off
from the scorching sun.
A nice dip and the first tour is over.
Tourists mosey over to the awaiting boats
while the driver ferries home the tired
tourists. If you’re still packed full of energy
get in a cab and head over to Rhu Beach.
Rhu is straight out of a travel maga-
zine. Once you step on the white sandy
beaches, you’ll be astounded by its beauty.
The colours are so vibrant that they seem
photoshopped. Mother Nature sure outdid
herself. The beach marks the beginning
of the Mangrove Tours, another one of
natures wonders. Mangrove trees look
like your average trees only that they
are partially submerged in water. Tour
rates start from RM150 and differ based
on the length of the tour. Hafiz has been
a Mangrove guide for a couple of years
and knows the waters like the back of
his hand.
The tour starts with the boat weaving
through the waters. Slithering through
the natural canals, Hafiz talks about
the different species of flora and fauna
found on this land. The chatter of cheeky
monkeys trail your path through the scenic
sail. The most common type found here is
the Long Tail Macaque. If you’re lucky you
