but also has a restaurant on-ground
serving up their catches. A young guard
at the farm was full of facts and jokes
ready to entertain and educate all those
who visited. Firdous spoke of the fast
Geti fish, the colourful Parrot fish and
the poisonous Puffer fish. The fish farm
has an array of aquatic life meant just for
viewing purposes and offers fresh bites as
well. For a small price, you can pick up a
lobster, clam or crab.
Next on the agenda was the Bat Cave.
Years ago locals started noticing the colony
of bats visiting the nearby villages and
turned it into a small attraction. Visitors
can enter for a small fee of RM2 which
includes a flashlight to guide along. The
cave is dark and the pathway is low, so tall
people should be wary. The trip takes 15
minutes before you’re out feeling a little
spooked and questioning the existence
of vampires.
Before heading to the last destina-
tion, boatmen drive past the coveted
“Kilim Geoforest Park” sign which is
the equivalent to the Hollywood sign in
America. Hundreds flock for a quick photo
opportunity. The final leg leads visitors
to the clear blue waters of Pulau Pasir. A
little splash, a little dip and you’ll leave
Langkawi with a heavy heart.
Most of these travel arrangements can
be made through a tour agent. We suggest
the Discovery Travel and Cuisine Sdn.
Bhd. If you get through, ask for either Zul
or Joseph, it’ll be a great trip with them
as your guides.
Langkawi has more to offer than duty
free goodness. The Mangrove tours and
island-hopping make for a great day out.
You’ll retreat to your hotels feeling a little
tired, a little sun-kissed and extremely
happy.
