here
is no denying that
this good looking lad who
is of mixed parentage (his
father is Shanghainese,
while his mother is Brit-
ish) was a star since he
was young. Born and
raised in Hong Kong, Dominic studied in
a boarding school in United Kingdom for
two years and was offered a scholarship
at the King’s College in London as he
was discovered for his talent in music.
Currently in a band with some of his
close friends who also work in the media
industry, Dominic Lau is a force to be
reckoned with.
We heard you started young in the
advertising industrybydoingcommercials
asakid.Howdidthatprogress intoacareer
in hosting?
I attended a casting call for “a speaking
role” in 2004. After making the shortlist
and securing a proper screen test, I was
chosen to join Channel [V] in 2005.
Being a VJ on [V] led to more hosting op-
portunities on [V]’s sister channels such
as National Geographic, Star World but
most notably on Star Movies for a movie
review show called
VIP Access
. All these
channels fall under the Fox International
Channels network. It also provided me
the opportunity to engage in a lot of
emcee and event work – my proudest
accomplishment being selected to host
the 79th and 81st Academy Awards. In
2010 I left Fox to become host of E! News
Asia on the NBC Universal network.

“Asian Ryan Seacrest”?
It’s very flattering to be thought of in the
same light as someone like Ryan. He is
very good at what he does and I’d like to
think I’m on the right path to becoming
as revered as he is. However, I’m aware of
the fact that it was probably just a name
that stuck when I first started hosting
