like to be a part of helping to make the
industry stronger in Asia and perhaps
one day live up to the name the press has
given me; “Asia’s Ryan Seacrest”.
If youweren’t hosting, whatwouldyoube
doing? Would it be music as we read you
canplaymusical instrumentsandyouwere
in a band?
I have always been an avid musician. I
studied music at school and in university.
I am in a band with some close friends
– who also work in the media industry –
which gives us twice as many things that
we have in common! But, if I weren’t a
television host, I’d probably be a pilot.
Growing up, I always had a fascination
for airplanes and as such dreamed of
becoming a commercial airline pilot –
particularly for Cathay Pacific. I’ll bet you
didn’t know that about me!
Something you’d like to achieve but
haven’t achieved?
There are so many things on my bucket
list it would be difficult to list them all
now. But at the top of that list is being
able to earn enough money so that my
mother or my family never has to work
again. Simple.

a radio show called Asia Pop 40 (Ryan

I’ve got my eye on you!!
Work requires you to travel a lot. Inwhich
country was your favourite hosting gig
andwhy?
I do travel a lot but it’s hard to pick a
favourite hosting gig when there have
been so many. To be completely honest
with you, I have forgotten a lot of them.
But, I do have two clear favourites that
stand head and shoulders above the rest
– not for the country it was in but for the
sheer awesomeness that they were; the
OSCAR Awards in 2007 and 2009. It was
a surreal and thrilling experience to be at
the entertainment industry’s biggest event
of the year. I hope to go back someday…
A lot of celebrities say that being in this
industry and holding a relationship is hard
work, what do you think?
It is a lot of hard work! I have an amazing
girlfriend who is also in the industry
and whilst the days, sometimes weeks,
apart due to travel can be extremely
lonely and taxing on our relationship, she
understands that it’s part and parcel of the
job description. It’s comforting to have a
partner who is also in the same business.
From hosting live shows, walking on
the catwalk, red carpets and various TV
programmes,whichonedoyou favour the
most andwhy?
There are lots of aspects to my job that
I love. It means meeting a lot of new
people, making new friends, learning
new techniques and so on. But there
is nothing quite like hosting a show
live-to-air. Knowning that there are no
second chances, no room for mistakes
and just the thought of realising that
any one of a hundred things could go
wrong ie technical glitches, forgetting or
screwing up lines, sneezing, coughing
… it is a rush.
How long do you see yourself doing this?
I see myself doing this for a very long
time. I believe that the television industry
in Asia has still to meet its’ full potential
and as such, I have not met mine. I have
been blessed to have obtained the work
I have so far in my career with so many
people to thank for giving me those
opportunities but it has not come without
hard work and perseverance. I would
