Petaling Jaya Old Town Market
Located on Jalan Othman in the heart
of PJ Old Town, this wet market has
a permanent building equipped with
parking, offering a dual level experience
that covers all bases: fresh ingredients,
dried herbs, cookies, rice, utensils and
more. There are also jewellery, bags and
clothes stalls on the top level. A sizeable
food court area serves pre-cooked and
fresh food – the
roti
is always popular – as
well as cakes and other goodies to take
away. This market has been operating
for three decades and opens daily from
6am until 3pm.
TTDI Wet Market
Branded by some as the cleanest market
around, Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI)
market has almost 300 stalls, with a
history of 25 years of trading on the same
spot. Open from7am-12.30pm, this multi-
level market building has a wide range
of services, from local and international
produce to tailors, organics food shops
and bakeries all sharing space. There is
also a good food court to replenish the
shopper after a hard morning’s shop.
China Town Wet Market
Hidden just off the popular Petaling
Street, this wet market is within a few
minutes walk of the city’s original mar-
ket (situated at Central Market) and is
best visited in the early morning, as by
afternoon the stall holders are no longer
selling their goods. While fairly small in
size, China Town Market offers a decent
range of fresh produce as well as some
Chinese food stalls serving sweets and
savouries. Avoid trying to park in this
frantic part of town. Catch the LRT to
Central Market instead and then walk to
the market.
Loke Chow Kit. The market runs from
9pm-5pm every day and sells fresh and
dried produce as well as utensils and
pans. There are also food stalls cooking
up noodles or
roti
and lots of options for
coffee or cold beverages. If you want to
avoid driving, the Chow Kit monorail sta-
tion is located a few minutes walk away.
Bangsar Night Market
The Sunday evening night market in
Bangsar is something of an institution,
causing gridlock on the roads around it
but delighting all who attend with the
mix of fresh produce with freshly-cooked
goodies, while clothes, handbags, sweets
and cookies and even DVDs all get a
look in as vendors come and go. There
is always a long queue for fresh
popiah
,
while a steamboat stall and the grilled
corn vendors also attract the crowds.
The market starts from around 3pm
(depending on the weather!) and runs
until after dark.
Petaling Jaya Old Town
market is a multi-
layered house of fresh
produce delight.
Prices are clear
and generally
non-negotiable.
If it’s fresh fish
you seek, the
markets should
be your first stop.
Stall holders get
pretty close to
their produce!
Markets may
be messy but
they are always
interesting.
