When you feel like island and beach vacations are getting a little too overrated, it is time
to hit the lake.
Lake Kawaguchi (Japan)
Renowned
for its stunning representa-
tion of the essence of Japan, Mt. Fuji’s
shimmery reflection stands beautifully
in Lake Kawaguchi’s still water. Although
the lake is not being talked about as
much, it holds the greater scenic view.
About an hour and a half from Tokyo,
Lake Kawaguchi is the second largest of
the Fuji Five Lakes and a popular tourist
attraction with lakeside hotels and camp
sites as well as wind-surfing, excur-
sion boats and sports fishing facilities.
Japanese Crucian Carp and Wakasagi
(Hypomesus Nipponesis) were intro-
duced to the lake in the Meiji period.
During the months of July and August,
Lake Kawaguchi turns into a major hub
for climbers of Mount Fuji when it gets
most crowded. In 2013, the lake was
added to the World Heritage List as part
of the Fujisan Cultural Site.
The Lake View
Lake Tahoe (USA)
The
beautiful lake is the meeting point of
the state of California and Nevada with
white dusty mountains surrounding it
on all sides. The crystal-clear water of
this largest alpine lake in North America
stands at an elevation of 1,897m, making
it worth a visit at least once in your whole
lifetime. Visitors can enjoy the greatest
view of Lake Tahoe from the viewpoint
at Emerald Bay. There is also a gondola
that goes up to the mountain for hikers
who want to experience the beauty of
Lake Tahoe from up above. Lake Tahoe
is the ultimate go-to destination if you are
into cold-weather sports like skiing and
snowboarding as well as water sports
like kayaking, paddle-boarding, rafting
and scuba diving. The nearby Nevada
casinos promise a happening nightlife
too, if sports are not your thing or if you
want to end a good day out with some
entertainment.
