Thailand is packed with great beach destinations, but consider Krabi for the best of
mainland and island life.

Island Life on the Mainland
A
town, a capital, a province and a district, Krabi offers a little of
everything for those seeking one good spot to head to for some
fun in the sun in Thailand. Situated on the west coast of Southern
Thailand, the town may be small but it boasts a majestic location
on the sea and amidst limestone cliffs that reach out over the
mangroves and make for a glorious vista.
Real life
It’s a popular place with visitors, so a
plethora of guesthouses, travel services,
restaurants and bars will make a visit easy
but perhaps not tranquil. That said, Krabi
lacks the crassness of some of the trendier
island destinations and has a sweet hum
of real life, with ladies practicing their
dances on the waterfront at dawn and the
morning market buzzes with activity – it’s
the biggest in southern Thailand.
Krabi is located 800km from Bangkok
and consists of over 100 islands. History
suggests that Krabi, the Thai word for
sword, took its name from an ancient
sword that was discovered there during
the town’s inception.
