Cave dwellers
Caves may pepper the surrounding area
of Krabi Town, but the one to visit is Wat
Tham Sua, or Tiger Cave. This warren
of natural caves used to be home and a
place of worship for local monks, with
the main temple still adorned with relics
and statues. Work up a sweat by climbing
1,237 steps to visit Buddha’s footprint
at the top of a limestone tower and reap
the reward of a magnificent view across
the lush forests and out to the glittering
Andaman Sea.
Night market delights
When the sun goes down, there is only
one place to go for a feed – the night mar-
ket which springs up on the waterfront
in Krabi Town is packed with local food
sizzled and cooked before your eyes.
The ‘walking street’ market is a good
outing for embracing the local culture,
grabbing some food and picking up gifts
and souvenirs, although this only runs
Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights from
6pm-9.30pm.
There is much to see, do and enjoy in
Krabi, and it serves as a spring-board to
other islands such as Phuket for those keen
to move on after a few days of fun.
