“Mokhtar was a player who knew
what needed to be done when he was
on the field. He was very disciplined
so there was hardly a need for anyone,
including me, to give him instructions or
motivation.”
TENGKU ZARINA
Tengku Zarina Tengku Ibrahim first met
Allahyarham Mokhtar Dahari when she
was 16 years old.
“He was playing for Selangor and he
came down to Kota Baharu for a game.
We were introduced by a mutual friend,”
said Tengku Zarina. “ After seven years
of courtship, we decided to tie the knot.”
According to Tengku Zarina, Mokhtar
was very committed to football, andmade
be the only one to be given the recogni-
tion and glory.” Tengku Zarina believes
that it’s now up to the current crops of
players to carry on Mokhtar’s legacy.
“There was Azman Adnan, and then
Safee Sali. I was so happy when I heard
they were legends in the making in their
own era,” said Tengku Zarina, who is a
Manchester United Fan.
It has always been her wish to see
the Malaysian football team do well.
Though they have had setbacks recently,
she firmly believes that they will rise up
again.
