Malaysian National Rounds were hosted by
theKualaLumpurRegional Centre forArbitration
(KLRCA) on Sept 5 and 6, 2015. The champion
team comprised of Lee Mei Xian, Melvin Ng
and Mishand Patmanathan. Lee Mei Xian also
emerged as the Best Mooter in the individual
mooter category.
All fiveATCteamsmade it tothesemi-finals.ThefourATCKuala
Lumpur teams all made it to the top four rankings.The final round
wasanallATCfinalwiththeteamcomprisingofKuljeetKaur,Seena
Kaur andThevan Aruljothi emerging in second place.
All top three best mooters were also from ATC. Lee Mei Xian
emerged as the Champion Best Mooter, Melvin Moi emerged as
the 1
st
Runner upBestMooterwhilePrabjitDevSinghemergedas
the 2
nd
Runner up Best Mooter.
All four teamswerecoachedbyAlwinRajasurya, andassistant
coaches, JanineKimura, AizurraMirsyaandSubana,whowerealso
former mooters themselves and ATC graduates.
The LAWASIA International Moot Competition is an annual
mootcourtcompetitionorganisedbytheLAWASIAMootStanding
committee since 2005 and the competition has grown in stature
and prestige since. LAWASIA is an international organisation
of lawyers’ associations, individual lawyers, judges and legal
academics in the Asia Pacific region.
The moot problem ranges from international human rights
to international commercial arbitration and changes every year.
Malaysia is theonlystate that conductsnational rounds, ofwhich
the top two teamsareselected for the international rounds.This is
the fourthtimeATChaswonthenational roundsandATChopes to
win the International Round in Sydney for the third time.
ATC has a long tradition of excellence in various mooting
competitionsandencouragesall studentstoparticipate.An internal
competition is held every year to unearth talent and to provide as
manystudentsaspossiblewiththeopportunitytohonetheirskills.
Mootingworkshopsandexhibitionsarealso regularlyheld for the
benefit of the students.
Mooting is an integral part of legal education as it provides
trainingforthefundamentalskillsnecessarytobecomeasuccessful
lawyer.Mootingoffers systematic training in theessential skillsof
problem solving, legal analysis, drafting submissions and the
development of publicspeaking. ATCrecognises thisandensures
its students are exposed tomooting at national and international
levels.
