A New Hiro In Town
With a shout of
Banzai!
,
ReubenMiranda
heads toBangsar Baru, Kuala
Lumpur to sample the delights of this new Japanese inspired bar.
I
was quite excited when I was
invited by the
Hiro
of Opreations,
Samson Sidhu
, to pop in for a
chat over some food and drinks.
Located at Jalan Telawi 2 in Bang-
sar, the outlet is not hard to find
and I soon found myself striding
in. Sidhu was there to greet me and we
made ourselves comfortable at one of
the high tables.
The outlet was dimly lit, which
just added to the relaxing ambiance.
Contemporary music was playing in
the background, just loud enough to be
registered without interrupting conversa-
tion. There is a beautiful
sake
bar located
at one end of the outlet which is a real
eye-catcher and I found my eye being
drawn to it often.
A bar is not just a bar
A bar is just a bar. Well, that is not
necessarily true of this place. Yes, it has
all the things that you would expect from
your standard watering hole. A long bar
with stools, optics showing off all the
different spirits that are available, and
a row of taps offering different beers. A
pool table. Background music. Booths
and high tables for the customers and a
dance floor. This is where the standard
recipe ends. Hiro stands out from the
crowd due to the fact that it serves
sake
, as well as
Kirin
beer on tap. Hiro
has acknowledged the growing trend of
drinking
sake
and hopes to promote and
educate more people about this drink.
Sake
is a Japanese alcoholic drink made
of fermented rice,
koji
(often translated
as rice malt or yeast made from rice) and
water. In Japanese, the word
sake
also
means alcoholic beverages in general.
