Good eats
Along with a wide selection of drinks, Hiro also
serves Japanese fusion bar snacks and main
courses. I was looking forward to trying the food,
and I have to say, I was not disappointed. The first
dish to be served was called
Chicken 65
. A dish
that originated from Chennai, India, it has chicken
that has been marinated in turmeric powder, chili
powder, salt and ginger and garlic pastes. This has
a great flavour combination that provides a bit of
kick without taking away the taste of the other
spices. Delicious.
Next up were the
Yakitori Chicken Skewers
and
Vegetable Spring Rolls. Yakitori
(grilled chicken) is
a Japanese type of skewered chicken. The prepara-
tion of
yakitori
involves skewering the meat with
kushi
, a type of skewer typically made of steel,
bamboo, or similar materials. The skewers had
tender pieces of chicken meat and vegetables
that were glazed with a
yakitori
sauce. The
sauce was salty-sweet and very tasty. The
spring rolls were fried to perfection, giving
the skin a wonderful crunch, complementing
the vegetables inside. The chili dipping sauce
was delicious and Sidhu told me that all
the sauces, except for the ketchup and
mayonnaise, are home made.
The main course that was chosen for
me to try was the
Grilled Lamb Chop
. This
was a generous portion of lamb chop that
was wonderfully grilled and served with
fries, creamy coleslaw and black pepper
sauce. This is the one to have for meat
lovers. All the food was accompanied by
glasses of
sake
, which goes very well with
grilled meat.
