(UI/UX Designer) makeup Locasee.
The main aim of this app is to solve
the perennial problem of where and what
to eat, with their clients being various
eateries. Locasee was conceived after the
founders participated in the BigApp 2.0
competition held at Cyberjaya. The task
at hand was to utilise multiple source of
open data to create an app for a smart city.
“So we created a mobile application,
which will help others to enjoy the best
deal nearby. We provide information on
locations, food, facilities and promotions
where one can see before deciding where
to go”. said Izaat Basri, Locasee’s UI/UX
Designer.
“We learnt so much from the trip to
London,” said Izaat. We met many new
people, especially the startup community

up with an initiative, the
ODI Bootcamp, which
was conducted in London.
The ODI Bootcamp was a
two-part startup acceleration programme
focused on supporting new data startups
to foster innovation in open data busi-
nesses. Startups were exposed to different
business innovation cultures and applica-
tions for open data businesses, received
intensive and personalised coaching in
communicating business ideas to a variety
of audiences and were connected to the
ODI international network.
“The Big Data ecosystem is growing
and evolving inMalaysia swiftly and there
is a lot happening in this country. For the
uninitiated, the Big Data landscape can be
daunting. The speed is key here, I must
say, in order to get the right message to
the entreprenuers and stakeholders in
order to ensure that they can be part of
this growing ecosystem. This latest tie-up
is in line withMDeC’s strategy to facilitate
the creation and growth of innovative
startups inMDeC’s focus areas such as big
data analytics (BDA), ” said Muhundhan
Kamarapullai, Head of Startup & Entrepre-
neurship Ecosystem, MDeC.
Locasee, Solar Flare, SmartShopper and
Tapway are four of the startups who were
the chosen ones for the bootcamp and they
shared their experiences with us.
