which has since been turned into a
rustic-chic café that serves breakfast and

Chicken Rendang

quite an impressive selection of coffee
and home-baked cakes.
Well there is a saying about not letting
our past define who we are today but it is
never really such a bad idea to look back
every once in awhile to see how far we
have come. Just like Kuala Lumpur in all
of its glory today, we are lucky that the
journey back to its past is still possible
at the Old City Centre.

Quirky Space
After a day of sightseeing and food hunt-
ing, one will get to the point of wanting
to relax and update your social media
accounts. Merchant’s Lane is a quirky
café that offers not only WiFi connection
but also a gorgeous setting for your
next Instagram photo. Located above
an old shop next to the ATC building
in Chinatown, the space holds quite a
shocking past. It used to be a brothel
your thing, there are still plenty of things
to do and see at Petaling Street. At
least your stomach will be pleased by
the selection of local Chinese food like
chicken rice
, Chee Cheong Fun, Yong Tao
Foo
and beef noodles readily available
from the local hawker stalls.
Speaking of local food,
Nasi Kandar
also deserves a mention. Originating
from Penang, Nasi Kandar is a dish of
steamed rice served with a variety of
curries and side dishes like vegetables
and salted eggs. With so many Indian-
Muslim restaurants located in Old City
Centre, Restoran Kudu Bin Abdul stands
out among the rest. Upon arrival, you will
be greeted by a long queue of hungry
locals and tourists waiting for their
turn to have a taste of the famous
Nasi
Kandar
. Try the delicious squid curry and
