A Boy And His Tiger
his name from John Calvin, the humourless Protestant who
founded the strand of Christianity that now bears his name.
Neither one of them were fans of people in general. Leviathan
argued for government as necessary to prevent humanity
from descending into endless anarchy, while Calvinism is
based around the idea of humanity’s base state being “total
depravity.”
A Calvin and Hobbes textbook was produced
It is called
Teaching With Calvin and Hobbes
, and it was
published in 1993 by a small press in Fargo, North Dakota.
There were only 2,500 copies printed and the books were used
to help teach students with learning difficulties.
Watterson Turned Down Spielberg And Lucas
There was a point when both Steven Spielberg and George
Lucas reached out asking to meet with Watterson, but the
artist, who shunned publicity, politely declined.

1995, after years of fighting with his syndicate over
merchandising, and with newspapers over running comic
strips too small, Watterson said he’d had enough. There

He worked for six months at the Cincinnati Post in 1980, right
after he graduated from Kenyon College in Ohio with a degree
in political science. His distinctive style can be seen in his
earlier works, formed long before Calvin and Hobbes entered
the picture.
Both Calvin and Hobbes are named for historical
figures
Hobbes is named for Thomas Hobbes, who is best known for
his 1651 dissertation,
