she had to be in Macau performing. Her
most memorable performance abroad
was at an international jazz festival in
Taichung, Taiwan. Poova wowed a giant
crowd of 15,000 people.
“I love performing in Malaysia too
because it is my home turf but I have to
say, there is a super kick to performing
internationally like in Taichung. We
even got to travel around the outside
of Taichung for a small break after
the festival and it was a very beautiful
place, scenic, relaxing and very natural.
I would definitely go back again for a
holiday,” recalls Poova of the experience.
Poova also wishes to travel a lot more
as an artist. Cambodia and Hong Kong
are already in the pipeline but she also
wants to do exciting things musically. “I
grew up on the same music and songs
as everybody else, so I want to hit the
mainstream with my music and give
back to my musical heritage.”
yesterday. It was a high-profile wedding
where I was specifically chosen by the
couple to perform alongside other sing-
ers including Katherine Jenkins (famous
British opera singer). It was a really huge
honour to share the stage with her. I
wrote and performed an original song
titled
I Found You.
Joining the league
Poova’s ability to write her own music
put her in the same league as other suc-
cessful local female singer/songwriters
like Yuna, Zee Avi and Shila Amzah.
She is always inspired to write because
of her love for music and her natural
storytelling ability in sharing her life
and emotions. Being a soul singer, her
honesty in crafting her music makes
each of her songs accessible to her fans.
Being a musician, Poova travels a
lot. She even missed her big moment
of winning the AIM 21
trophy because

status did not stop the powerhouse

in three categories against
local music industry giants like Siti
Nurhaliza and Shila Amzah. Winning
the Best New Artist award on the pres-
tigious night actually proved that Poova
is now slowly entering the mainstream
territory. She has even had her music
played and sung live several times on
radio stations which has helped her
reach a wider audience nationwide. Her
transition from an independent artist to
becoming a national award winner and
representing Malaysia in international
events like the Hong Kong Asian Music
Festival is a dream of most independent
artist out there.

nothing but amazing for my career. I can
still recall my first big show like it was
