is it possible for
a company or organ-
isation to function
without proper coor-
dination and systems
in human resource
management? One of
the key elements is having all employees
able to interact and work well with one
another. They also need to be heard and
managed by Tan Gah Ling’s calibre and
experience. With eight years of experience
in her field, the Firefly’s Human Resource
Manager shares with us her role as a
HR practitioner and the challenges that
come with it.
What areyour responsibilities as aHuman
ResourceManager?
I report to my Head of Department and
am indirectly responsible for the overall
administration, coordination and evalu-
ation of the human resource function.
I work closely with my boss to achieve
shared organisational objectives, par-
ticularly in designing and implementing
HR systems and processes that support
the overall aims of the company. I also
act as a liaison between employees and
corporate leadership in handling pilots
and overseas staff matters.
Canyou tell us a littlemore about your
background?
I graduated from RMIT University,
Melbourne. I moved into the banking
industry at entry level and started my
career under branch operations. I then
switched to Human Resource before
leaving for a career progression. I have
been with the aviation industry for about
8 years now.
