Perfect Prefectures
Japan boasts of cities that amazewith their glitz,
glamour and high techmarvels. Neverwas the phrase
“bright lights, big city”more appropriate thanwhen
talking about Japan.There is a flip side to this coin,
though.There is the quieter, more serene side of this
lady, with the different prefectures offering amore
mellowand extremely beautiful experience.

prefectures, each offering a
slightly different, more mellow
way of life. With the need for a
visa to visit Japan being lifted,
it is now so much easier to be
able to visit. Reuben Miranda
recently had the opportunity to visit some
of these areas and was left breathless at
the sheer beauty of the region and the
gentle ways of the people who live there.
Small town life
An hour and a half’s drive from Chubu
Centrair Airport will get you to Gujo
Hachiman, which is located in the Gifu
prefecture. This area is truly “off the
beaten path” Japan. Gifu is a prefecture in
central Honshu, Japan’s main island. It is
home to traditional mountain villages, in-
cluding the skiing destination Takayama.
The city of Gifu, the prefecture’s capital, is
famed for cormorant fishing. It was very
nice to see people passing by each other
on the street and exchanging greetings
with each other. Though English is not
widely spoken here, there was always
a warm smile as a welcome. For such a
small town, there is actually quite a lot to
do and see here. Not many people know
