The KL Journal Officially
Launched
The
KL Journal Hotel
was launched
recently in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
The hotel is a new concept boutique
hotel in town designed with a modern
retro vibe, catering for a new generation
of independent travellers. It also houses a
casual bistro called
Bounty
and a creative
communal area for work and play, called
Workers’ Union.
Esteemed guests, members of themedia
and close friends and family joinedDirector
Kenny Tai, Hooked Hospitality Director
Colin Chung, and
Bounty’s
Head Chef,
Logan Lopez, as they celebrated the launch
with an evening cocktail party. Held at
Workers’ Union
, guests were treated to
great cocktails throughout the night, mixed
by acclaimedmixologist, ShawnChong. He
prepared special cocktails for the launch,
which were a whiskey-based cocktail
named
Dusky Daisy
and a gin-based
concoction called
KL Headline
.
Bounty
provided an assortment of canapés, while
guests were entertained by the funky
sounds of DJ Blastique. The night also
featured the illusionist, Edison Lim, who
captivated the crowd with his talents.
The launch was in conjunction with a
photo exhibition by Che’ Ahmad Azhar, a
renowned local street photographer. Part of
his collection, named,
Walk Of Life
, are
also featured as photo walls in the various
rooms of the hotel. The launch party was
preceded by a press conference andmedia
tour of the hotel.

Pongal Celebration At Central
Market
An Indian festive season thanking the Sun
God for a bountiful harvest,
Pongal
, takes
its name from a Tamil word which means
‘boiling over’. As a symbol of prosperity
for the family, Hindus customarily boil
milk over clay pots to celebrate this
festival. Celebrated for four days, it is
one of the most important and popular
Hindu festivals amongst the Indian com-
munity inMalaysia. Central Market Kuala
Lumpur played host to a
Pongal Cultural
Celebration
recently.
The Outdoor Stage of the mall was
decorated with an exquisite ceremonial
displays to showcase the exuberant cus-
toms and rituals of this Indian harvest
celebration. Tourists and shoppers of
all races were treated to a fascinating
spectrum of traditional customs, filled
with colours, dances, music and tasty
delights.
Exciting activities was presented
for visitors to experience, including a
lively
Pongal
cooking demonstration
with the customary boiling of the pot
milk rice. Energetic and vibrant
Pongal
themed dances were also performed, and
significant to the traditional celebration,
flavourful Indian delicacies such as
Murukku, Vadai
and
Payasam
were
also served.
