Presented by Theatre for
Seniors, a programme started
by Singaporean theatre
company The Necessary
Stage, the production will
seek to explore a couple of
issues: rising divorce rates
among the elderly and their
abandonment by family
members. In forum theatre,
audience interaction will
follow the performance of a
play so those in attendance
will be able to weigh in with
their solutions to these issues.
Singapore’s new media artist, Ong
Kian Peng, will also be presenting an
interactive art experience through his
project called The Face Daily. The title
refers to a fictional daily newspaper
created exclusively for the festival.
The Face Daily’s editorial will be
extracted from Facebook. Depending
on what contributors post, its coverage
may range from the banal to the
profound. The project aims to explore
the potentially dubious nature of
information dissemination in today’s
age of new media. Visitors to the Fringe
Festival will not only be able to get hold
of the latest edition of The Face Daily,
which will be distributed at various
fringe venues, they will also have the
opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes
peek at its production at the tabloid’s
makeshift publishing office.
In total, 11 live performances and
four visual art showcases from six
countries will be presented at the M1
Singapore Fringe Festival. For more
