Hypocritical: Wearing leather, consuming
eggs, and exploiting cattle for milk?
IT
is undeniablya powerful argument, though
beingvegetarian simply implies your choice in
thematter. Realistically speaking, fewdo take
steps tomove away frombeingameat-eater,
and it doesn’t happenovernight.
Far frombeinghypocritical, if everyone
were to adopt avegetariandiet; just think
of theneedless slaughter andmisery that
couldbe avoided. And as for the cows,
theyproducemilknaturally, don’t they?So
what’swrongwith consuming themilk?The
little that ‘you’ do, will still bemakingavery
valid and significant contribution towards
reducinganimal crueltyand safeguarding the
environment inour country.
Support fromthe right places is a
cornerstone in attainingyour quest.There is
definitelynothingembarrassingor secretive
inbecomingavegetarian andneither is it a fad.
It is the realisationof a life longambition and
agreat displayof self-restraint, courage and
discipline.These arevalues that areupheld and
revered in society. Your familyand friends, as
thebackboneof support aidgreatly, and can
actuallybecome a boon inhelpingyoumake
the transition tovegetarianism.
Thepoint is not toget upset if youmeet
withoppositionormockery…people are
people, and thatwill never change. Your family
and friends are there to support youbecause
they loveyou. Beingvegetarian requires
their understanding, andwhat youdo is your
choice. Definitely… the rest … is completelyup
toyou!
From the meat lover’s perspective
FROM
theoppositeperspective, writer Lyle
Davis’ article ‘Never Lose anArgumentwith a
VegetarianAgain’ says that “peopledidn’t get to
the topof the food chain just toeat vegetables,
and it is perfectly justified andnatural to
beomnivores too”. Herwrittenviewpoint
expresses that: “Manyvegetarians argue that
god’s creatures shouldn’t be sacrificed simply to
appeaseour craving for a thick, juicy ribeye.
“While theremaybe somemerit to their
arguments, their rationale also reeks of
hypocrisy. Althoughvegetarians openlydecry
the slaughter of animals, they thinknothingof
tearingcarrots and spuds out of theearthor of
stickinga zucchini intoa high-speedblender
… in fact, somegroups evenbelieveplants can
feel pain.”
