1991 to manage all labo-
ratories in the KPJ Group
of hospitals. Specialising
in laboratory and pathol-
ogy services, LabLink
started its operation for
KPJ Groupwith Ampang Puteri Specialist
Hospital in January 1999. Since then, they
have contributed greatly to the network
of healthcareservices thatKPJHealthcare
has created.
Occupational Safety and Health
Labl ink Medical Laboratory provides
services not exclusively to KPJ but to
other hospitals and general practitioners
as well. They offer daily collections, with
fast results delivered viamobile andweb-
based apps, using technology that was
developed inhouse. Lablinkalsooffers the
MobileLaboratoryservice, whichprovides
medical screenings at home, offices,
factories and at events. It is a greatway to
reachout topatientswhoarebedriddenor
thosewith very restricted ability tomove
as well as huge groups of employees in
need of a health check up.
One new service provided by Lablink
is Occupational Safety and Health (OSH).
Most of us think think this is specifically
linked to the Oil and Gas (O&G) industry
but according to Lablink’s ResidentMedi-
cal Officer, Dr. Nurul Afiah, it is not always
the case. “OSH is all about promotion and
maintenance of workers health. It also
focuses on providing a healthy and safe
workplace.Theaim is toprevent
occupational diseases.

Medical
surveillance
OSH doctors like
Dr Afiah are cer-
tified by the De-
partment of OSH
(DOSH), under the
Ministry of Human
Resource. Their main
function is to do medical
survei l lance. For those who
work in environments where they are
exposed to hazardous chemicals listed
under the act, medical surveillance helps
keeping their health in check.“Starting
frompre-employment assessments, we
look at certain areas based on the work
scope. There will also be assessments
before each placement and, occasionally,
after as well.”
