heard of Darin, now is the
right time to get familiar
with the latest import
from Sweden. The singer-
songwriter first broke into
the scene when he came
second in the Swedish talent show ‘Idol’,
before launching a successful singing
career with his chart-topping first single
Money For Nothing. All three of his earlier
albums shot straight to number one in
Sweden, gaining attention from music
fans the world over. What else is there to
know about this young artist of Kurdish
descent? Let’s find out!
Which singerwouldyou like to collaborate
with andwhy?
Beyonce. I met her once and she was just
standing there smiling. She told me she
thinks I’m cute (laughs). I really admire
her for her talent and also the fact that she
is a great performer.
Swedish musical acts like Roxette, The
Cardigans and Ace of Base have had their
fair share of success around the globe. Did
they have any influence on you as a singer?
Definitely. I grew up listening to them
and hoping to be as successful. In Sweden,
we take music seriously right from school.
I am so glad that we are given the support
that we needed.
What is one decision that you are really
gladyoumade?
Releasing my second album within the
same year after the release of my debut
album. We had our doubts at first but at
the same time I was very confident with
the new sound and got really excited. It
sold twice as many as my first album,
proof of how important it is to me to listen
to my gut instinct.
How does your songwriting process
go? Are there any steps that you have
to follow?
It is different each time. Half of my
latest album was written on piano and
guitar while the rest were done using a
computer, playing around with different
beats.
Tell us five things that your fans don’t
know about you.
1. When I was a kid I could write and
draw with both hands.
2. Once I sang and broke a mirror with
my high note.
3. I wrote the melody for Nobody
Knows in just five minutes.
4. I can be really crazy sometimes but
in a good non-psychotic way. People
don’t expect that from me because
usually I’m quite laid back.
5. I love spicy food.
