Langkawi, officially known as the Jewel of Kedah, is an
archipelago of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea. Historically home

from the southern part of theMalay peninsula, as well as pirates
and fishermen, it is nowknown as a duty free holiday paradise.

Langkawi Underwater World
Underwater World Langkawi is one of
the island’s best-known attractions,
spread over nearly six acres. It is located
at the southern end of Pantai Cenang,
beside the duty-free shopping. The huge
white-washed structure is Malaysia’s
largest aquarium and houses more than
200 different species of marine and
freshwater fish including rockhopper
penguins, sharks, giant rays and the
enormous
Amazonian arapaima
– the
biggest freshwater fish in the world.
The complex is divided into three
sections: Tropical Rainforest, Temperate
and Sub-Antarctic. Other highlights of
Underwater World include an Educa-
tional Resource Centre, a cafeteria and
a 3D theatre. Another impressive feature
is a giant walk-through six million litre
underwater tunnel tank which houses
an extensive number of fish.
Langkawi Sky Bridge
Those with a fear of heights may not
enjoy this but the views that are offered
are absolutely stunning. The last stop
on the cable car ride, this is definitely
one of the attractions on the island
that should be missed. This 410ft-long
curved pedestrian bridge above
Mount
Mat Cinchang
is easily accessible by the
Langkawi Cable Car.
It can be a hair-raising experience
crossing the bridge as this cable-stayed
bridge actually curves 125m around a
single support, but the structure is very
safe and secure and the payoff is the
amazing views and cooler temperatures.
