talks to

about her
hand-made pieces and recalls some of her proudest
moments so far as an accessories designer.
A
ccessories
play major
part in not only compli-
menting but also trans-
forming just about any
outfit. Jewellery, shoes and
handbags become key pieces in high-
lighting each look, showcasing different
angles of style and personality. Fully
aware of this, accessories designer Scha
Fadly shares her passion and ingenuity
in crafting beautiful accessories inspired
by her love for architecture and nature
that have garnered such a huge follow-
ing among local fashion personalities
and celebrities alike.
Made With
Love
her own label, Scha Fadly Accessories
in 2010.
“Each piece of my design has a story
behind it. I draw inspiration from differ-
ent elements like architectural, nature
and floral. Being a design architect has
given me the aesthetic sensibility, the
understanding of colour play as well
as format and proportions, which is
essential to make any design look at-
tractive,” she says. Aside from that, she
has always been inspired by women in
her life as they are powerful, successful
and inspirational. Both her mother and
grandmother are avid jewellery collec-
tors with their own individual styles.
Scha’s handmade accessories are an
expanding range of necklaces, earrings
and cuff bracelets. Currently in progress
is the design of clutch bags, headpieces
and other accessories with the incorpo-
ration of new materials.
All the pieces are designed and hand-
stitched by her and come in limited
numbers. “To me, anything handmade
is special. Even if many of the same
items are being made, they will each
be unique and different. Things don’t
have to be perfect. In fact, it’s the
imperfections in most handmade items
that make them so beautiful and sought
after. I love vibrant colours and textures
and I try to incorporate both into all my
pieces,” says Scha who cited Iraqi-born
British architect, Zaha Hadid as her idol.
Aesthetic Sensibility
“I graduated from the University of
Malaya in Bachelor of Architecture,
where I learned about different elements
of art and design such as photography,
model making, sketching and sculpt-
ing. Accessories design incorporates
everything I love about colour theory
and structure,” explains Scha. She began
making and recreating new statement
necklaces from broken pieces of her
old accessories and sold it to her close
friends and family back in 2009. The
great response from her customers
gave her the confidence boost to start
