The IsuzuMU-X is
Isuzu’s ‘passenger
vehicle’ that is based
on their popular D-Max
pickup, which in turn is
based on theChevrolet
Trailblazer /Colarado.
The Looks
Measuring 4,825mm (length) x 1,860mm (width) x 1,860mm
(height) and sitting on a 2,845mmwheelbase, the MU-X is one
of the larger truck-based 7-seater SUVs around.
The MU-X’s front may look suspiciously like the more
utilitarian D-Max pickup’s, but look closer and you will find
that the MU-X’s face (headlights, grille, etc) has been redesigned
for a brawnier, yet more elegant look, while maintaining its
rugged resemblance to its pickup brother.
The test unit is the top-spec 4WD variant which includes
LED daytime running lights, 17” wheels, rear spoiler, climate
control, tonneau cover, roof-mounted rear LCD display and an
Android-based touchscreen system.
The Cabin
Its larger dimensions afford a more spacious interior than
its rivals. All variants come with leather seats which are
comfortable enough except for the most discerning.
There is good head, shoulder and legroom

in the 2nd row, which also features a reclining backrest. The
3rd row, while a little tight, offers more space than some
rivals. Access to these rear seats is via the easy-tumble 2nd
row. There are air vents above the 2nd and 3rd row seats for
quicker cooling.
Cargo space with all the seats occupied measures 253 liters
and expands to 1,830 liters with all rear seats folded. There
is also a storage box in the rear for convenient storage of the
tonneau cover as well as small items. There is plenty of storage
all around, like the double glove box, atop the dashboard, the
deep armrest storage, between the 3rd row seats; even the
front cup holders can serve as tiny drawers.
But as near-car-like as its
interior is, the dashboard
still takes after the D-Max, as
