Natural Wonders
Located in Dawa County, China,
Red Beach is well known for its
landscape that features the red
plant of
Suaeda Salsa
. The rare
plant is one of the few species
of grass that can live in highly
alkaline soil. Its growth cycle
begins in April, when it is light red
in colour, before turning deep red
once the species has matured.
The shallow seas and tidelands of
Red Beach is home for thousands
of birds including the red-crowned
crane and the endangered black-
mouth gull.
Oneuli Beach is famous for its quiet
environment and the black sand
that gets extremely hot when the
sun is out, due to the mixture of
salt and pepper in it. The pepper
comes from Pu’u Ola’i, an eroding
cinder cone that rises 360 feet
alongside the beach, and the salt
is created by coral and shells that
have been granulised by the sea.
Despite the heat, those who visit
the beach will always have a great
time as the water is perfect and
the land makes a great camping
site. Other regular beach activities
like snorkelling, scuba diving, and
kayaking are also available. Kehena
Beach is another beach with black
sand in Hawaii but unlike Oneuli, it is
always crowded with tourists.
