The ‘sea of stars’ of Vadhoo
Island is different from any other.
The marine bioluminescence is
generated by phytoplankton known
as
dinoflagellates
. Research by
Woodland Hastings of Harvard
University identified a special channel
in the
dinoflagellate
cell membrane
that responds to electrical signals,
which offers a potential mechanism
for how the algae create their unique
illumination. For honeymooners, this
rare phenomenon creates the most
romantic natural lighting in the world.

Lake Hillier is a saline lake located in the Western
Australia. It is particularly extraordinary for its pink
colour. The lake is surrounded by a rim of sand and
dense woodland of paperbark and eucalyptus trees. It is
hard to believe how the striking colour is permanent.
The colour does not change when the water is taken in
a container. Scientists are still debating on what actually
causes the lake’s pink colour, although the presence
of organism called
Dunaliella salina
(a type of halophile
green micro-algae especially found in sea salt fields)
could be the reason for it. The pink lake water does not
have any undesirable effects on humans and is,In fact,
one of the most beautiful natural oddities in the world.
Carrera Lake, Chile is also known as Lake Buenos
Aires on the Argentinian side. The lake is located
in Patagonia and is shared by Argentina and Chile.
Both names are internationally accepted. The lake
is the biggest lake in Chile, and the fourth largest
in Argentina.
The strangely beautiful landscape is the result of
glacial origins and the breath-taking surrounding
of Andes mountain range. Carrera Lake’s major
attraction is its unusual marble formations.
The Marble Caves, Marble Chapel and Marble
Cathedral are located at the centre of the lake.
They represent a group of caverns, columns
and tunnels formed in monoliths of marble. The
Marble Caves have been formed by wave action
over the last 6,200 years.
