Please introduce yourselves.
What up! We’re Timeflies, vocalist Cal Shapiro and producer is
Rob “Rez” Resnick.
What led you guys to form Timeflies?
We had been in a funk band together and wanted to do something
more electronic and high energy. While in college, we decided to
take it to the next level. Next thing we knew, we were dropping
videos and playing shows.
How would you describe your music and why did you choose this
genre?
We used to say electro hip-pop dub something but honestly even
that felt limiting. Music is really headed away from genre lines
and we are excited to be a part of that movement. We like to make
music that conveys emotion and energy, so I can’t honestly saw
that we fall into a particular genre.
What do you think it is about your music that appeals to your
fans?
Again, it is really awesome to have people who love dance music,
hip hop, rock, pop, etc. all coming together at our shows. We have
such a wide range of fans. We also like to keep it real in our videos
so our fans feel like they know us, which is awesome!
Which one of you gets the most fan mail?
If by fan mail you mean DMS well …we don’t really compare but
I would think that it an equal distribution.
What do you guys do to relax?
We like to go out and party with friends, watch Game of Thrones
and eat sushi. Pretty much friendship, good food and lots of drinks.
You must spend a lot of time together. Does it get to the point that
you start to irritate each other?
All the time … ha just kidding, just kidding. Getting to do this
with a friend is awesome, one of the best feelings in the world.
We bounce ideas off each other and work so well together. It must
really suck to be in a band with someone you don’t like. Sorry
to The Eagles.
Tell me about your latest single.
Once In AWhile is awesome. We moved to Los Angeles
(LA), USA and were in a super introspective place,
sort of thinking about our lives and what was next for
Timeflies musically.
We realised that as important as all of those questions
were, sometimes you just want to kick back and feel
good. The song was started on our last tour and we
finished it here in LA. We knew the whole way it was
going to be an especially magical song, so it has been
so exciting to see the reaction that it has received the
world over.
Future plans for Timeflies?
We like to say we have a vault of fire - meaning we have
so much newmusic that we are working on and excited
to drop. Our next song is going to be out very, very, very
soon. So look out for that.
As well as Timeflies Tuesdays (a series of popular
videos of remixes, live performances of cover and
freestyling over original beats performed by Timeflies),
we are also planning other surprises. We’re going to
Scandinavia next week and planning a bigger European
trip later this year, as well as a full United States headlin-
ing tour in October. All big!!!
