Helsinki is a fairly large city with
more than 500,000 inhabitants.
Called the “Daughter of the
Baltic”, Helsinki is located on the
tip of a peninsula. The city’s light
rail commuter system is sowell
used that it gives Helsinki amuch
smaller city feel. The residents of
Helsinki are very proud of their
city and do their best tomake sure
it stays clean. The streets arewide,
whichmakes them less prone to
congestion, thus reducing the
level of fumes fromcars.
Located inNorway, Oslo follows an
impressively high-tech approach in
their wastemanagement system,
with underground pneumatic pipes
helping to dispose of all the domestic
garbage. Although regarded as a very
expensive city, its clean air, water,
opportunities and efforts to clean
the citymakes it the secondmost
livable city in theworld. There are
numbers of parks and green areas
within and around the city core
including Frogner Park, Bygdøy and
St. Hanshaugen Park.
Known for their hardwork and dedica-
tion, it is not difficult to imagine the
amount of effort that the Japanese put
to protect their environment. They have
a great reputation in fields like advanced
technology, economy, infrastructure,
recycling andwastemanagement. Kobe
plays an important role as one of the
most important port cities of Japan,
with a population of around 1.5million.
Environmental friendly efforts like using
green fuel for transportation and hi-tech
solidwastemanagement techniques have
all promoted Kobe to becoming one of
cleanest city’s in theworld.
