Signatures
The menu is impressive, with over 40
food items to choose from. A few of the
signature dishes were chosen for me to
try. The
1995 Signature BBQ Spare Ribs, The
Notorious Short Ribs
and
Signature Roast
Pork Salad
were soon landing, in all their
glory, on the table.
The ribs are named as such because
1995 was the year that the first Naughty
Nuri’s outlet opened in Bali. This dish
was good enough to bring tears of joy to
my eyes. The restaurant uses Spanish ribs
that are marinated with fruits. There is
no use of sodas or other fake marinades
here.
They are slathered in a very addictive
sweet-sour sauce and the meat is so
tender that it just slides off the bone.
Served with a slightly spicy sauce on the
side, the ribs are meat lovers heaven.
The
Roast Pork Salad
is a simple dish
of roasted pork sitting on a bed of of a
mixedmesclun salad, purple cabbage,
hard-boiled egg, tomatoes, papaya,
watermelon, crispy pork skin croutons
and tossed in the house
AsamMargarita
vinaigrette. The vinaigrette has a slight
bite to it but is complemented by the
flavour of the pork.
The Notorious Short Ribs
are braised
short ribs that are served with a special
rendang
sauce, onion rice and
acar
(a type of vegetable pickle made in
Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore).
Braised to perfection, this is another
one that is well worth having.
Shhhhh
As much as I enjoyed the other two
dishes, I kept going back to the ribs.
If I could, I would have married them.
There was one final surprise for me to
be shown. It is not a well known fact
that this outlet also has a speakeasy
bar. Unless you knowwhere it is, you
will never find it. Hidden behind an
unmarked and easily missed door, the
bar is small and intimate, but fully
stocked.
There is nomenu per se.What there
is, instead, is a list of spirits, mixes and
other ingredients. Make your selections
and the mixologists will craft a drink for
you. Pretty cool, really.
Though staying true to the recipes of
the original Naughty Nuri’s, they have
been tweaked slightly tweaked for the
Malaysianmarket. The food is delicious,
the drinks guaranteed tomake you
happy, and the restaurant is a fun dining
place that is very family friendly. With
the opening of their fourth outlet, there
really is no reason not to give them a try.
