Wheels
rear cargo space works out to 340 liters,
which is still practical as long as you are
not shopping for a large family. The rear
seats have a 60:40 fold to accommodate
larger items and the center armrest
section has an access to the boot.
The seats are an Alcantara/leather
combination with red stitching that is
also on the front center armrest and door
cards. Other than the bit of red and the
silver trimaccents on the dashboard, the
interior is mostly black. Somemight call
the interior claustrophobic; I regard it as
cozy.
The dashboard has gone from
soccer-mom-compact-mpv to sporty-
youth, with the carbon-fiber finish,
circular air vents, 8” color display and the
flat-bottomed AMG steering wheel. All
the buttons are within easy reach and
duplicated on the steering-mounted
buttons as expected.

I would credit this third
generation A-Class for
bringing a whole new set
of customers to Mercedes-
Benz. The previous
generation, with its rather
insignificant stumpy
appearance, did too, but
the German carmaker’s
decision to up the premium
feel and give it a snazzy look
opened the floodgates. The
car tested is the facelifted
version launched in early
2016 with three variants
(excluding the performance-
oriented AMG A45) catering
to different budgets and
preferences. The review unit
is an A200 wearing AMG kit.

The Looks
The third generation A-Class went with
the sleek look, bringing the roof lower,
and a wider stance.With the AMG kit, the
A200 gets sporty-looking bumpers and
side skirts as well as 18” AMG alloy wheels
to fill the arches. The AMG-style diamond
grille with chrome pins, redesigned LED
headlights and tail lights, lowered sport
suspension and the definitive character
lines on the sides give the car amore
aggressive and dynamic appearance.
The Cabin
With the sleeker profile, the A-Class is
not as spacious as themore practical, but
bland second generation. Space for the
rear passengers is compromised by the
compact dimensions but is still usable
and comfortable for two adults; three
will be a very intimate experience. The
