In 2009, Solange ditched her weaves and
wigs to embrace her natural hair. Her
close cropped curlsmade headlines but
she simply told the gossip journalists
that she “just wanted to be free fromthe
bondage that blackwomen sometimes
put on themselves with hair and spend
my time, energy andmoney on something
other than the hair salon”.

The first single fromher latest LP, Cranes
in the Sky, was written eight years prior
to the album’s release. In fact, the entire
album’s recording sessions took three
years to finish - between 2013 and June
2016. Solange even shared about how she
suffered “a little bit of a breakdown”while
recording the albumas she spent all day
and all night focusing onmakingmusic.
The albumaccording to her is “more than
just an album. It is a transitional time in
my life”.

not only revamped her career but has
also created her own personal style that

across the globe. Her new fashion icon
status has a lot to dowith her penchant
