A Seat At The
Solange has come a long way since her days of hiding behind the shadow of her big sister,
Beyonce. After releasing her critically acclaimed second album, Sol-Angel and the Hadley
St. Dreams, Solange had a huge career makeover and hit it big with her latest LP, A Seat At
The Table, which shot straight to the top of Billboard Hits 100. If you have not heard of this
fabulously fashionable musical genius, here are seven facts about Solange that will make you
instantly fall in love with her.
Fact 1
Solange once temporarily replaced
Destiny’s Childmember Kelly Rowland
after Rowland broke her toes backstage
when they were on tour. Her confidence
and stage presence led her father,Mat-
thewKnowles -whowas also the group
manager - to consider adding Solange to
Destiny’s Child after one of themembers
left in 2000. The idea nevermaterialised
and Solange released her first album, Solo
Star instead, in 2003.
Fact 2
The talented singer is also known for
her songwriting talent. Solange began
writing songs at the age of nine. She has
written songs not only for her own albums
but also on the solo albums of all three
members of Destiny’s Child including her
sister, Beyonce. Get Me Bodied, a song
written for Beyonce’s second album, B
Day, even earned her an R&B andHip-
Hop Song accolade at the 2008 ASCAP
Awards.

Solangemarried her high school
sweetheart, Daniel Smith at the young
age of 17. Together they had a son, Daniel
Julez J. Smith Jr. She remained single after
her divorce in 2007 before finally tying
the knot again in 2014withmusic video
director Alan Ferguson in a super stylish
wedding inNewOrleans, Louisiana.

copies upon its release in the United
