Catching the young of Bukit
Malawati
No trip to Kuala Selangor is complete
without a jaunt up Bukit Malawati via
tram for a close encounter with the
silvered leaf monkey, also named silvery
lutung or silvery langur.
Visitors gladly purchase bundles of
long beans from peddlers for a feeding
frenzy with the sharp-witted simians.
Be on the lookout for the offspring of
these creatures. They sport bright orange
fur which changes to their namesake
silver-tipped dark grey between three to
five months after birth.
Observe Nature from above
Once in Sekinchan, head to the
observation tower located on the grounds
of the Sekin Hotel and Resort. A nominal
fee that comes with bottled water is levied
for non-guests of the resort.
Scale the tower for an aerial view of
Sekinchan on one side and a shimmering
coastline on the other. Enjoy the sea
breeze as you watch monitor lizards
gliding across the fish pond below.
If you fancy bird watching, you may
be able to spot several interesting species,
including the turquoise-coloured White-
breasted Kingfisher perched amongst
giant palms. Introduce your urbanized
children to the art of grasshopper
catching. Take a stroll along the beach
and be pleasantly surprised to find a
seemingly abandoned wooden beach
house.
