Sponsorship plays a big part in carrying a
racer forward. Has it been easy for you to
garner that sponsorship?
I have hadmy challenges, but it’s also been
easier for me than my male counterparts
to get that sponsorship because sponsors
want exposure and they notice that I get
more exposure than the men.
Your official website lists you as an
entrepreneur rather than as a drifter or
racer.Why is that?
A “drifter” by definition is “a person who
is continually moving from place to place,
without any fixed home or job”. So I didn’t
want to list my occupation as such. To
say I’m a “racer” isn’t preferable either
because apart from racing I also run my
own business. I organise motorsports
events and sell car performance parts
online. And I’malso involved inmy family
business.
When did you knowyouwere good at this sport?
I didn’t know I was good as there were many other better drifters. But there weren’t
many female drifters, so I decided it was worth a shot. My purpose and goal of being
part of a male-dominated sport is to prove that women are also capable of driving
fast, drifting and matching up to the male drivers.
Did you have to train harder than yourmale counterparts?
Yes, I did. And I’ve alsomade an effort to learn other skills like circuit racing, endurance
racing, go-karting, gymkhana/autocross, time attack, drag racing and even rally driving.
