PERSONALITY
Are motorsports receiving enough
attention and support in Malaysia?
Formula 1 racing is the only motorsport
that gets exposure here, but there are
many other motorsports that should
be given equal attention such as rally,
circuit racing and drifting. Without
exposure, sponsors won’t be willing to
support drivers, and there will be less
racing events. Luckily social media has
helped many racers gain the necessary
attention and exposure.
Tell us a little-known fact about drifting.
Unlike racing, which is time-based,
drifting is very subjective. Drift racers are
judged on the drift angle, entry speed,
tire smoke, proximity to the clipping
zones and the performance they put on
for the judges.
How much have you invested in drifting
and what constitutes the bulk of the
expenditure?
Motorsports is a very expensive sport.
The cars and performance parts are
expensive, the tires are constantly
trashed and replaced, and you don’t
always win a race. I’ve invested a lot of
money, time and effort in this sport, and
the bulk of the expenditure goes to the
tires, petrol, towing fees and registration
fees.
Howmany cars do you own at this point?
Five. A Nissan 180sx, a Nissan Silvia
S13, a Nissan Silvia S15, a BMW E60 V8
and a Proton Satria
Whathasbeenthehighlightofyour racing
career?
Being invited to Singapore to participate
in the Autocross Event and clocking the
fastest time in my category.
What has been your greatest lesson?
That you need physical and mental
strength, and a good night’s sleep before
a big race.
Five years from now, you will be…
Racing internationally, organizing bigger
motorsports events and starting a race
school.
