a plethora of
pubs and clubs
flooding its vibrant streets, Koh Samui
is definitely a paradise for beach bums
and holiday-makers alike. While beach
resorts and pool villas are often the more
sought-after choice of accommodation in
Koh Samui, I decided to go for the more
unique option – a boutique design hotel
known as The Library.
Strategically located in the oh-so-
happening Chaweng Beach, amongst
well-known hangouts like the Ark Bar and
Bondi Aussie Bar and Grill, The Library
defines simplicity at its best with clean
cut designs using a white, black and red
colour scheme, and furnished with urban
chic décor in all of its 26 suites and studios.
Walking into my 67sqm Smart Studio
after a breezy check-in, I was greeted by a
spacious white roomwith a comfy-looking
king sized bed – which I had to stop
myself from jumping in – on the upper
deck (the room was split level) and a
colour-changing LED headboard. Beside
the snoozing area sat a red daybed that
added just the right amount of colour
needed to spice up the mood in the room.
The flexibility of the room makes it a
perfect crib for couples and families alike.
Accompanying its simple yet chic
décor was an assortment of entertainment
technology, including an iMac, a DVD
player and a plasma TV, which allowed
me to watch the DVDs that are available
for loan at the hotel’s library, The Lib.
Apart from the DVDs, The Lib is also home
to over 1,300 books that are available to
borrow or purchase – providing a satisfy-
ing alternative to modern distractions,
especially for a bookworm like me. One
can tell I was in an orgasmic state of mind
just by looking at my face upon stepping
into The Lib.
The expansive grounds at The Library
provide ample space for guests to flourish,
each area representing a blank page to
write their story. As I walked around the
property, I find white life-sized human
sculptures in various reading positions. I
was told that there are about 20 of these
readers in different locations of the prop-
