Worlds Apart
Fancy buying a piece of artwork froma hotel room in
Singapore? FireFlyz interviews Art Apart Fair organiser,
Rosalind Lim, to find outwhat sets this art exhibition
apart fromthe rest.

he
first international hotel
art fair to open in South
East Asia where the first
three editions in Singapore
were great successes, the
Art Apart Fair will have its
much-anticipated fourth
edition from July 18 to 20 at Park Royal
on Pickering. The reason for its success
is due to its concept, where the art fair is
uniquely set up in hotel rooms and lobbies
withmore than 2,000 art pieces on exhibit.
Unlike the traditional white cube format,
using areas within a hotel creates a more
intimate art experience for visitors – almost
like visiting a friend’s home to enjoy an
artwork. The fair introduces the works of
emerging and mid-career contemporary
artists that comprise of visual 2D artworks,
sculptures, new media artworks and
installation arts.
What makes this art exhibition unique to
other more conventional ones?
It is a very unique experience for visitors
as not only do we painstakingly find the
galleries and artists, but we also take time
to select hotels that are uniquely designed,
befitting the installation of artworks in
the hotel. We have experts sitting on the
advisory board and curators to select the
galleries and artists participating at the
art fair.
Programmes for the art fairs are also
carefully thought out. We include periph-
eral activities such as design, fashion,
performance and culinary arts in our fairs.
There are also educational art talks to help
new art collectors. On top of just admiring
the transformation of hotel rooms and
lobbies into a dreamscape of fine art and
design, visitors will also be able to walk
away with pieces of it. While all artworks
on display at the fair will be for sale to
visitors, a handful of these pieces have
been specially selected and donated to
be part of the Great Art Auction and Fair
Lucky Draw.
What will be the theme for the upcoming
Art Apart Fair in July?
For the fourth edition of the Art Apart Fair
Singapore, our biggest highlight will be to
introduce Eastern European Art, featuring
artworks from Moscow. Many countries
such as Korea, Japan, Philippines, Indone-
sia, China, Vietnam, Myanmar, Singapore
