STORY
Portraits in Paradise
Pre-wedding photography in exotic locales has
become a growing staple in the checklists of
couples-to-be. EdwinKoh gets the lowdown from
three industry professionals.
N
ot
much else can trump the perfect image of a looming union
between two individuals than a beautifully choreographed
pre-wed album. But the manufactured backdrops of idyllic
canals and lush prairies that once graced (or plagued) many
a photobook are giving way to real vistas that share as much
limelight with (if not, take away from) the celebrated couple.
We’re no strangers to bridal studios contriving photo-
shoots at alluring destinations like Bali or Paris. Of course, social media has no
doubt increased consumer appetites for destination shoots. What better way
to flaunt graphic evidence of your marriage or your vacation on Facebook than
by combining both experiences. We pick the brains of three photographers for
insights into their professional lives.
Multiple award-winning Edwin Tan (edwintcg.com/blog; +6012 304 0558)
juggled between a permanent management position in shipping and part-time
photography for some years before deciding to pursue the latter full-time with
Armadale Weddings in 2012, and has travelled to nearly 50 cities in the past
three years doing what he loves. He was International Photographer of the
Year at the Canon AIPP Australian Professional Photography Awards in 2013
and was named one of the Asia’s Top 30 Photographers by Signature Weddings
Magazine in 2012.
