Get ready to be a Tomb Raider for a day,
minus the stunts and sexy latex outfit.
Rengit
, a border town between Batu
Pahat and Pontian, is a treasure trove of
flea markets that sell second-hand shoes,
furniture, guitars and even household
items. You name it, and youmight just find
it here. If you dig hard enough, you might
come across awesome antiques dating as
far back as 1900 that may have belonged
to the royal family. I heard that the place
is so famous that their clients even come
all the way from neighbouring countries.
HAWKER FOOD
The hawker fair next to the river oppo-
site MadamKings in Jalan Bunga Raya
is a hidden treasure. From its beautiful
Mamak Mee Rojak, Nyonya Kueh
and Popiah Basah
to its freshly
squeezed sugarcane juice, this place
stays true to its local flavours and pric-
ing without caving into a “tourist trap”.
If you’re a photographer who wants to
capture the essence of Malaysia well,
I would suggest coming at about 5pm
when the vendors are setting up shop
and preparing their food, such as the
uncle who mans the
satay
stall.

The
Time Capsule Retreat
in Sungai
Lembing is an idyllic place to relax with
friends and family. Just a five-minute walk
away from the mining town, this unique
retreat is located in the rainforest and its
rooms aremade of round sewer pipes. This
haven is eco-friendly without sacrificing
the comforts of modern amenities such as
white fluffy sheets and air-conditioning.
What I love most is the BBQ pit area
and the outdoor shower that gets its
water source from a nearby spring.

Kuala Lumpur
You’ll be able to find almost every brand in
this vibrant city, fromSalvatore Ferragamo
and Kenzo to Muji. Kuala Lumpur may
have its fair share of international brands,
but what I love about this place is the little
treasures you could find if youwiden your
horizon than just the usual Bukit Bintang
and KLCC “touristy” areas. Do look out
for up and coming local fashion designers
such as Joe Chia, Andy Bandy, Nusantara
Denims and interior designer, Peter Hoe,
for some great individual home pieces and
décor ideas.
