consideration, but muscle mass is heavier
than fat. So if your weight plateaus as you
progress in your workouts, it may just
mean that you are gaining more muscle,
while losing fat.
When it comes to your diet, a rule of
thumb is to go for whole foods instead
of processed ones. If you can call what
you are about to eat with a single name
like fish, beef or eggs, then they are safe
to take. Food labels with ingredients you
can’t pronounce may contain chemicals
which are unhealthy in the long run.
Needless to say, reduce your intake of
foods that are high in sugar and fried,
and increase fibre intake. Also, try to take
your last meal no later than four hours
before bedtime.
What advice can you give to couples who

Exercise can be done anywhere, anytime
without the need to go to the gym. Having
said that, going to the gym can give you
the right psychology to workout. You can
use your own weights and exercise at
home. A key consideration however, is to
know what type of exercise and the level
of intensity you need to do them at in
order to get the results you want. So learn
the exercises and the right technique first
before you do them on your own.
Working out at odd hours does not
impede your progress as long as you can
perform your workout in good form and
are not too exhausted. It doesn’t matter
what time of the day you do it as long as
you get enough rest in between.
Suggest activities that couples can do
together.
There are many fun ways to exercise a
couple can do together. A 50m alternate
sprint/run outdoors can be a good way to
start. Each person stands 50m apart. One
party starts by running to the partner,
who is keeping time, then jogs back to the
starting point. The roles are then reversed.
The sprinting is the “work” whilst the
jogging is the “recovery”. Perform the
routine for 20 minutes and see howmany
times each can do.
You could use a medicine ball (invest
in two – one light and one heavy) to do
squats and lunges together while passing
the ball to each other. You could also use
the medicine ball to alternately perform
sit-ups (For example: hold the ball, do a
sit-up and as you crunch, throw the ball to
your partner). After 15 repetitions, change
positions with your partner and remember
to always motivate each other.

Sharing your post-workout experiences
and make it a point set the next exercise
“date”. If the serving is big, order one
portion and share. This prevents over
eating. If you like outdoor activities, then
try out different places to exercise. This
keeps your workout sessions fresh and
interesting.
