A
host
, a model and now
a writer, Jason Godfrey
has come a long way
before getting to where
he is today. Growing
up in Canada, this only
child had the ethnic
sort of disconnect. He saw how all the
advertisements featured blonde kids,
with blue eyes, and every time he looked
into the mirror, he realised he wasn’t
that kid. That made Jason sort of grew
up feeling like the other – not that the
Canadian society made him feel that way
as it is a great multicultural society – but
he somehow felt that feeling alienated and
isolatedwas just something hewould have
found a reason to feel anyway.
As far as his career goes, Jason enjoys
writing the most … hosting second and
modelling, a distant – like far away galaxy
distant – third.

Because I started modelling in the first
year of my Bachelor of Arts degree. Then
I transferred to environmental studies.
There’s no connect at all between the two.
I needed money for school so I modelled.
When school was done, I had the chance
to keep modelling and travel the world
or get a job in my field probably doing
something far less sexy like urban plan-
ning or waste management, so I decided
to keep traveling and seewhere that would
take me. Turns out I never really stopped.
What do you likemost about being on the
runway?
There isn’t much to like about modelling
except the pay cheque. I did a TEDx Talk
earlier this month about how modelling
sucks, but that’s good. It outlined the basic
deficiencies in modelling as a profession,
lack of control, being creatively unimport-
ant, etc. Ironically the wording of your
question includes the only thing I used to
love about modelling and that was doing
runway shows. Runway shows, good ones,
