people, not just the staff from all walks of
life, is a humbling experience. Dealingwith
different people enables me to look at life
from multiple perspectives and it makes
me thankful for whatever I have.
The Music
It’s not all just work. During my free
time, I enjoy playing the guitar. I first
started playing the acoustic guitar whilst
I was waiting for my SPM (Sijil Pelajaran
Malaysia) results, and then began picking
up the electric guitar while I was still
studying in university.
I had the pleasure of putting my
musical skills to use during the Firefly
company dinner. I’ve also performed at
my residential college and participated
in various university competitions. My
most memorable performance to date
was when we were doing an opening for
a Spring concert. It was a truly enjoyable
experience for my bandmates and I. The
showwent on perfectly – we barely made
any mistakes.
I try not to adopt anyone else’s style
while playing. I prefer to play all songs
according to its original version, which
can be more challenging in my opinion.
My favourite songs are the classics
Sweet
Child O’ Mine
by Guns & Roses and
Hotel
California
by the Eagles. I believe that it is
important to have other interests outside of
work and I’m glad that I am able to strike
the right balance.

ment team, executive staff,
pilots, cabin crew, engineers,
ground handler, andmore. Each
individual is very unique, thus
their expectations and needs
varies. I must ensure that, in
whatever I do, it must satisfy
the needs of all staff as much as
possible andmost importantly, the
stakeholder’s needs.
Our industry is also very sensi-
tive to external factors, such as
the domestic and international
economy, oil price, manpower sup-
ply and demand and geo-political
development, therefore I must be
able to provide valuable input from
the HR perspective to the business for
it to react accordingly to the changes
on all those variables.
To take on this job, I must have a
good understanding of the aviation busi-
ness and sound HR knowledge, especially
when it comes to Labour Law. I must also
possess good networking skillswithin both
the HR fraternity as well as with aviation
practitioners. Above all, I have to have
patience and of course, passionate about
people.
The most challenging aspect of my job
would be, of course, dealing with people,
especially when it comes to handling
disciplinary issues or non-performers.
I always see myself as a ‘Father’ to all
the staff. At home, I must make sure my
kids are healthy, well-disciplined, complet-
ing their work and chores, and happy.
Similarly at theworkplace, I need to ensure
the staff’s well-being and that they are
competent, disciplined and motivated to
ensure that the company’s goals are met.
I am very happy at where I am now.

gained in Firefly is
very unique that no
other company will
be able to provide me
with. I also found
that I adopted more
flexibility in my job
as I am able to ac-
cept whatever role or
responsibility given
to me even though it
is not related to my
primary role of HR,
for example Safety &
HealthOfficer, Quality
Manager or Facilities
Manager in the past
as part of my respon-
sibilities. For me, this
is very important as it
helps me understand
the business as well
as to gain other com-
petencies.
