Beauty, Brains ... and Talent too
T
all,
tanned and her fea-
tures makes one turn not
once or twice but many
times, Marini Ramlan or
known to many as Nini,
is a complete package.
Beauty with brains and
talent, she exudes confidence and man-
ages to draw you in as she speaks. With
a background in visual communications
(time-based media) and fashion illustra-
tion as her elective from the Birmingham
Institute of Art & Design, Nini always
had art as a strong part of what she
does throughout her childhood life and
now, her career. Currently heading the
content innovation team at Primeworks
Studios, Nini also finds the time to do art
collaborations.
She has worked with TOMS Malaysia,
Fendi, Piaget, Levis, Island & Republik,
made art structures for Urbanscapes, and
even paintedmurals aroundKuala Lumpur
amongst the many others things that Nini
has managed to do.
Eat:
Rajasthan, Jaipur
Known for their vegetarian food, especially the thali – their signature dish which is a
tray of yumminess from different flat breads, curry, chutneys and rice.
Paro, Bhutan
Deep fried chillies paired with ginger tea is a must try! One needs to brave it out a
little and ask the locals to point out their favourite cafes as it is usually attached to
someone’s home.
ShuengWan, HongKong
As Nini is a fan of noodles, she was thrilled to find
Katong Laksa
in Hong Kong. Order
the signature
laksa
dish and have it with their refreshing black jelly and lime drink. It
is simply perfect during summer!
Shop:
Pasar Payang, Terengganu
Half of Nini’s family comes from Terengganu therefore she has a soft spot for the east
coast. It’s a market right in the middle of the city by the jetty. Practically every year,
Nini stocks up on
sarongs (batik)
. The east coast is known for the block printed
batik
sarongs. Those are the things you need to look out for at Pasar Payang. You can also
get beautiful cotton
batik kaftans
and accessories like traditional Malay metal belts
for your
sarongs.
Some favourite
batik
manufacturers to look out for is Kamis Batik &
Wan Isma Batik.
