fresh basil and parmesan. If you prefer a
non-tomato based
pasta dish
, opt for the
aglio olio breadcrumbs
– a Kulcats special.
Another interesting dish is the country
fried steak. You get a 160gm NZ striploin
served with country sauce, grilled corn on
the cob, fries and coleslaw. Don’t be fooled
though. The steakmay look a little dry, but
it melts in your mouth as the beef is tender.
The roasted herb chicken cooked Cajun
style with rosemary and secret spices are
prepared fresh daily. The restaurant is
also popular for its juicy and scrumptious
SloppyCats
burger
, served with Kulcat’s
very own sauces and bread, all made
from a scratch.
What to drink at Kulcats?
Even the beverage menu sounds deli-
cious, with names like

smoothies. New
additions include the

Loca
and
Butterscotch
. Diners can also try the
Tres
Puntos
– a refreshing red and green apple
with honey drink.
“As we do everything from a scratch,
it’ll be a dreamcome true if we could grow
a herb garden or even own a farm,” says
Sufiz with a smile.
The team at Kulcats recently launched
a bakery a few doors down from their
existing cafe called Kulcats Pastel.

in Taman Tun
Dr. Ismail, Kulcats Barrio
definitely hits the spot for
being a neighbourhood
restaurant serving comfort
food at affordable prices.
Run by a young teamwho
share a passion for cooking, its unique
name was coined to reflect the locale and
the people behind it. “Kul” was adapted
fromKuala Lumpur and the Internet slang
for ‘cool’, while “cats” is a street lingo for
young guns. “Barrio” is a Spanish word
for neighbourhood. Hence, Kulcats Barrio!
The guys were friends even before
Kulcats existed and had actually started
a catering business together. Due to their
common love for good food, they wanted
to create a place with a central kitchen
and work as a family to serve up dishes
to diners, coupled with warm and friendly
service. Kulcats opened its doors on June
23, 2013, and has been receiving a steady
stream of customers ever since.
“We serve what we call comfort food.
The home cooked dishes are easy to
make, but you need to inject passion to
unearth that nostalgic feeling,” says chef
Sufiz Allatif.
Food served!
Kulcats Barrio offers a mix of American,
Italian and Spanish dishes with a twist.
The menu is updated every six months
based on recipe ideas from a group of
family and friends. And judging by the
high volume of traffic that the restaurant
enjoys, they’ve probably got a winning
menu.
The

bination of

it is spicy, creamy, crunchy
and delicious! Another good option is the
Elgato
sausage
. The snack is made with
beef sausage, servedwith
pomodoro sauce
and

.
The restaurant offers four types of
salad. The Greek seafood salad, for in-
stance, consists of marinated seafood,
ro-
maine
lettuce
,
feta cheese
,
olives
, Japanese
cucumber, tomatoes and onions, tossed
with a house dressing. But a favourite
among the regulars seems to be the
Meow
Fries
that is prepared with Kulcats’ own
chili seasoning mix.
Kulcats offers a selection of main
dishes, if you are in the mood for
something more filling. Those
who love thin crust
pizzas
can
