Durian
To
many Malaysians, the durian is the
king of fruits. This thorny fruit does
have quite an infamous reputation and
is surrounded by many urban legends,
such as ‘durians never fall on anyone’s
head because the fruit has eyes’ or
that ‘drinking alcohol while eating a
durian may result in death’.The smell is
pungent yet the taste is heavenly. There
is no middle ground with this fruit, you
either love it or hate it.
Asam Laksa
Asam
Laksa combines rice noodles in a
fishy soup that has been flavoured and
soured with tamarind. The flavours are
quite jarring with the sour and spice but
they do go very well together. Different
states in Malaysia produce different
versions of this dish. It cannot be denied
that
asam laksa
has become so popular
that there is even an international
laksa
festival that is held in Langkawi.
Char Kuey Teow
This
dish is readily available in most
corners of this fair country. Flat rice
noodles, light and dark soy sauce, shrimp,
beans sprouts,
sambal
and egg are all stir
fried on a wok set on high heat to create
an amazing taste experience.
Fried Char Kuey Teow for the win!
The King of Fruits.
